A BRIEF HISTORY OF NEON:
Neon arrived in America in the early 1920s after being invented in France. The appeal was instantaneous and it gave new meaning to the phrase "a picture is worth a thousand words". Neon was considered "high class" and adorned the Big Corporation signs and logos of the 1930s. By the 1950s neon had transformed the American roadside into a magical, luminous wonderland. Nowadays, much of Route 66 and the old main streets are gone, leaving the rusty old neon signs which once glowed in all their glory.
And now they're back for your enjoyment!
